Leaks in water supply systems are often hard to detect. Water travels within the ‘trench’ that the pipe was originally laid in; it can seep from the trench and be dispersed into the surrounding earth. Chadoak has recently purchased a revolutionary hydrogen leak tester. The leak detection system uses a non-flammable nitrogen/hydrogen mixture as a tracer gas. The gas is added to the water supply system; it leaks through the broken pipes and rises above ground. This is then detected by the leak tester. This leak detection method reduces costs associated with excavations by pinpointing the exact location of the leak, even through concrete.
