WATER TANK SOLAR INSTALATIONS

The Australian Government’s Solar and Water Grants allows schools and other community-based groups to apply for funding of up to $50,000.00, for projects encouraging the wise use of water and for the installation of solar power systems and other energy saving measures.
Chadoak Plumbing is a GREEN plumbing company, which means we can provide environmentally sustainable water saving solutions, as well as advice on the installation of solar power systems to our customers.
Rainwater tanks are one of the easiest ways to capture the water that falls on and around your building. Depending on the size of your house and your garden, a Rainwater Tank can be purchased and installed by our plumbers in just a few weeks. We can advise you on the size of tank that you require and also government rebates that may apply.
Add value to your home and help the environment by installing a rain water tank. An average family uses 240,000 litres of water a year and around 50% of this clean fresh water goes down the toilet or into the garden. Installing a rain water tank allows you to capture and use rainfall that for most of us flows into the storm water system out into our rivers and bays. Water collected from your rainwater tank is ideal for watering your garden or washing your car.
With a rain water tank you have the potential to:–
- Collect around 80% of rain that falls onto your roof that is connected to gutters and downpipes,
- Reduce water bills, and
- Lower your impact on the environment by reducing water usage and storm water run off into rivers and oceans.
We specialise in industrial rainwater tank installations. If you are looking for a large installation, we have the manpower and equipment to carry out the job. Please call us regarding a site inspection and a quote.
We believe that most schools and industry could use stored rainwater for toilet flushing, significantly reducing the amount of drinking water used and paid for through the water meter.
An example of water savings is given below.
- If each student flushes a toilet only once per day
- 100 students would flush 900 litres per day = 4500 litres per week.
- 40 weeks of school per year equates to 180,000 litres of drinking water per year.
An audit of your property may find other ways to save money, water and energy. If you would like further information on the WATER AND SOLAR GRANTS, please visit www.environment.gov.au.
If you would like an obligation free audit of your property and a quotation on the supply and installation of a rainwater tank or a solar hot water system, please phone Paul Griffin or Jim Griffin on 9561 2266.

Kilbreda College appointed Chadoak Plumbing & Drainage to design and construct a below ground water tank to harvest and use rainwater collected on the school site. The school decided that a supply of water was required to provide sustainable water for use on the schools playing fields to lessen the impact of injury through a more friendly surface.
The tank system selected was the ‘Elmich Versitank Plus 880’ and comprised 720 cells, which were delivered to the school in flat pack form. Chadoak recognised the educational value of this project and enlisted the help of students (under the supervision of Kilbreda staff) in assembling the cells. This reduced labour costs for the school.
When the scope of works was detailed, special emphasis was placed on the following:-
- Rainwater collection method – roof and paved areas
- Environmental issues – ablution and garden irrigation
- Location of tank – within sports field
- Least disruption to curriculum – safety and movement of teachers and students
- Cost / savings – students assembled crates
- Water use – cisterns, gardens and sports fields
The volume of the tank was 180,000 litres. The constructed tank was placed under the sports playing fields at the college. The size of the excavation was 20 metres x 12 metres x 1.8 metres deep. The collected water is used to irrigate the sports grounds and gardens and supply water to cisterns in the sports change rooms.
Chadoak was presented the “Green Plumbers Australian Commercial Project of the Year Award” at the 2007 Green Plumbers Awards held in November 2007. These awards are an industry showcase of environmentally conscious products and services for the plumbing industry. The award recognised the Kilbreda College Underground Water Tank Project.
